Ask for consent first

Even if a recipient has previously consented to communications from you via other channels, you need to clearly have the recipient's consent (opt-in) to send messages via WhatsApp.

  • Your company name must be clearly visible when a recipient selects to receive future communications from you.
  • You can decide how to collect recipients’ consent, but applicable laws must be followed.

More about opt-in

Only send the type of messages that the recipient consented to when opting in.

If an end-user starts the conversation, no opt-in is needed to continue. This may be a good opportunity to get approval for future messaging.

Check the details of the channel first – some channels have specific rules regarding the collection of opt-ins. Contact us for more information on the rules that apply to each channel.
